Akron, Ohio - The Nebraska men's golf team is in 16th place after 18 holes on a shortened Monday at Firestone Country Club's North Course. The Huskers shot 303 in the first round.
Monday's first round was delayed for two hours due to frost, causing the cancelation of the second round. The Firestone Invitational has been shortened from 54 holes to 36 holes, with tee times set to begin tomorrow morning at 7:30 a.m. (CST).
Freshman Kolton Lapa led the Huskers on Monday at Firestone Country Club, firing a 1-over-par 73 at the 7,125-yard layout. Lapa made two bogeys on the front nine for a 2-over-par 38. On the back nine, the Mesa, Ariz., native bogeyed the 11th, but birdied Nos. 15 and 18 for a 1-under-par 35. Lapa is tied for 21st with 18 holes to play and five shots off the pace.
Jordan Reinertson is tied for 32nd after shooting a first-round 74 on Monday. The senior carded 39 on the front nine with two birdies, three bogeys and a double bogey. He fired a 1-under-par 35 on the back nine with three birdies and two bogeys.
Manuel Lavin posted a 5-over-par 77 in the opening round and is tied for 64th. Lavin, a junior, paced his way to a 1-over-par 37 on the front nine, making two birdies and three bogeys. He shot a back-nine 40 with a birdie on the 18th but added two bogeys as well as a triple bogey on No. 14.
Ross Dickson and Matt Record are tied for 79th after each shooting 79 in Monday's first round. Dickson made three birdies, six bogeys and two double bogeys en route to his 7-over-par total. Record made a pair of birdies but added five bogeys and two double bogeys in the first round.
Ball State leads the team competition after 18 holes at 282 strokes. USC-Aiken is in second at 285 and Davidson is in third at 289 strokes. Ball State's Tyler Merkel and USC-Aiken's Matt Atkins are tied for the individual lead after both firing 4-under-par 68s on Monday.
