- Freshman Kolton Lapa shot a second-round 75 at Firestone Country Club on
Tuesday to lead the Nebraska men's golf team to a 13th-place finish
at the Firestone Invitational.
After Monday's first round was delayed due to frost, the
tournament was shortened to 36 holes with the final 18 contested on Tuesday.
The Huskers entered the day in 16th place, but climbed three spots
after shooting 302 on Tuesday. NU posted 303 in Monday's first round.
Lapa tied for 22nd at Firestone Country Club's
North Course, a par-72, 7,125-yard layout. After a 1-over-par 73 on Monday, the
freshman carded a 3-over-par 75 on Tuesday for a two-round total of 148. He
paced his way to an even-par front nine with one birdie and one bogey. On the
back nine, Lapa made three bogeys en route to a 39.
Jordan Reinertson earned the second-best Husker finish
with his tie for 41st. Reinertson, a senior, posted a 4-over-par 76
in the second round. He made one birdie, three bogeys and one double bogey on
Tuesday. On Monday, he opened the Firestone Invitational with a 2-over-par 74
for a 36-hole total of 150.
Sophomore Ross Dickson shot a 3-over-par 75 in Tuesday's
second round. He tied for 68th at 154 strokes after a 79 on Monday. On
Tuesday's front nine, Dickson shot a 1-over-par 37 with two birdies, one bogey
and one double bogey. On the back nine he made one birdie, one bogey and one
double bogey en route to a 38.
Matt Record tied for 74th at Firestone Country
Club, shooting 155 over two rounds. He carded a 4-over-par 76 in the second
round after a 79 on Monday. Record fired an even-par 36 on the front nine
Tuesday, making three birdies, one bogey and one double bogey. On the back
nine, Record made four bogeys en route to a 40.
Tying for 79th was Manuel Lavin, who shot a
7-over-par 79 on Tuesday. The junior from Aguascalientes, Mexico shot 40 on the
front nine with five bogeys and one birdie. On the back nine, Lavin made one
bogey and one double bogey for a 39. In Monday's first round, Lavin shot 77 for
a 156 stroke total.
Ball State took home the team title with its 13-stroke
margin of victory over second-place St. Mary's. Maryland's Sean Bosdosh won
individual medalist honors, shooting 5-under-par 139 over two rounds. He edged
Ball State's Tyler Merkel by one stroke to take the title.
The Huskers return to action at the Herb Wimberly
Intercollegiate, Oct. 22-23, at the NMSU Golf Course in Las Cruces, N.M. Three
days later, NU will finish its fall season at the UTEP Miner Invitational in El
Oct. 8-9, 2012
