The Nebraska swimming and
diving team travels to Ames, Iowa, on Friday, Oct. 26, for a dual meet against
South Dakota and the host, Iowa State, beginning at 5 p.m. The Huskers (4-0)
are looking to stay undefeated on the season as they face the Coyotes (0-1) and
the Cyclones (1-1).
Nebraska last faced South
Dakota in 2010, earning a 142-95 victory in Vermillion, S.D. The Huskers
defeated Iowa State 200-100 last season at the Devaney Natatorium.
This week marks the last of
a three-week stretch of duals for the Huskers. The squad defeated North Dakota
and St. Cloud State two weeks ago, while they defeated Nebraska-Omaha twice
last week. Following the dual meet at Iowa State, Nebraska will have two weeks
to prepare for its meet at South Dakota State on Nov. 9. The Huskers will then
face Northern Iowa at home on Nov. 10.

The Nebraska swimming team
defeated the South Dakota Coyotes in Vermillion, SD, 142-95. The Huskers
won eight of the thirteen events in route to the win Friday evening.
Winners on the day include
Ariel Weech, who set a pool record in the 50-yard freestyle with a her leg of
the 200-yard freestyle relay. Her time of 26.88 broke the record at the
DakotaDome pool. Other winners on the day were Morgan Flannigan, Meredith Matthies,
Shannon Guy, Brandie Kavalec and Bailey Bolinske. The Husker squad also
captured the 200-meter freestyle relay.

State: Seniors Honored as Huskers Defeat Cyclones, 200-100

Five seniors were honored
on Saturday afternoon as the Nebraska swimming and diving team finished its
regular season on a high note by defeating the Iowa State Cyclones, 200-100. It
was the final dual at the Devaney Natatorium for Nebraska's Bobbi Balogh,
Mailene Leslie, D'Arcy Schmidt, Riley Seidel and Caroline Shea.
The Cyclones won the first event of the afternoon in
the 200-yard medley relay with the team of Rebekah Land, Shannon Guy, Hayley
Martin and Ariel Weech coming in second for NU. Bailey Pons (10.12.88), Morgan
Flannigan and Mailene Leslie then got the Huskers started in their winning ways
by sweeping the next event, the 1,000-yard freestyle. Pons shattered her
previous season-best time (10:19.68) in the event by nearly seven seconds. It
was the first of two straight swept events for the Huskers as Martin, Shea and
Kelly Dunn followed up in the 200-yard freestyle in the third event of the
dual.
Ellan Dufour gave the Huskers a third win in the
100-yard backstroke (57.75). Dufour set a season-best time in the race,
eliminating her previous best against Kansas at 58.24. ISU's Dani Harris and
and Sarah Norris finished second and third in the event, respectively. NU's
Natalie Morris and Katie Davis earned back-to-back finishes in the 200-yard
butterfly before Ariel Weech and Dunn added second and third place finishes in
the seventh event of the day, the 50-yard freestyle.
Payton Michaud closed out
the regular season on a high note, sweeping both the 1-meter (290.02) and
3-meter diving (308.67) events. It was a a season-best for Michaud in the
3-meter, besting her previous score of 306.05 set at the Iowa Invitational.
Alyson Ramsey added a season-best 303.07 score in the 3-meter for a
second-place finish in the event. Kaitlan Walker also tallied third-place
finishes in both diving events.

Drop Mavericks In Pair (10/20/12)
The Nebraska swimming and diving team defeated
Nebraska-Omaha 154-83 on Friday at the HPER Swimming Pool in Omaha, Neb., and
154-81 on Saturday at the Devaney Natatorium. The wins improved Nebraska's dual
record to 4-0 on the season after last weekend's victories against North Dakota
and St. Cloud State. They also improved to 17-0 all time against UNO.
On Friday, the Huskers won nine out of the eleven individual
events, while winning both the 400-yard medley and 200-yard freestyle relays. A
number of swimmers contributed to the victory, but junior Payton Michaud and
senior Hayley Martin played significant roles on the day. Michaud won both the
one-meter dive (289.57) and the three-meter dive (310.65), while Martin won the
50-yard freestyle (23.87) and was a part of both winning relay teams.
Other Husker winners on Friday were Bailey Pons (1,000-yard
free), Katt Sickle (200-yard free), Natalie Morris (200-yard fly), Ariel Weech
(100-yard free), Ellan Dufour (200-yard back), and Morgan Flannigan (500-yard
free).
On Saturday, the Huskers won all eleven individual events
and both relays. Juniors Shannon Guy and Bailey Pons led the squad, each
winning two events on the day. Guy was victorious in the 100-yard breaststroke
(1:05.82) and 100-yard butterfly (57.57), while Pons took first place in the
500-yard freestyle (5:01.96) and 1,650-yard freestyle (17:22.10).
Morgan Flannigan (200-yard free), Ariel Weech (50-yard
free), Katie Davis (200-yard IM), Kelly Dunn (100-yard free), Ellan Dufour
(100-yard back), Amy Herman (one-meter dive), and Payton Michaud (three-meter
dive) were the other event winners for the Huskers.
