Deeg Leads NU on First Day in Indiana
French Lick, Ind. - Cassie Deeg led Nebraska with an opening-round 79 at the 2013 Big Ten Women's Golf Tournament at the Donald Ross Course on Friday.
Deeg, a true freshman from Hugo, Minn., tied for 40th as an individual, helping the Huskers produce a 321 to end the first round in 12th.
Redshirt freshman Jackie O'Doherty out of Lincoln East High School managed an 80 as NU's No. 2 finisher in the first round. She sits in a tie for 51st, while freshman Hannah Luebke (Stuttgart, Germany) and junior Steffi Neisen (New Prague, Minn.) rounded out the six-count-four scoring for the Huskers with a pair of opening-round 81s.
Junior Katelyn Wright settled for an 82 to end the opening day in a tie for 64th, while redshirt freshman Cassidy Stelzmiller shot an 83 to tie for 67th.
Northwestern took the team lead after the first 18 holes with a 287, including a first-round best 68 from individual leader Hana Lee. Wildcat Kaitlin Park is tied for second at 71, along with Purdue's Paula Reto, who helped the Boilermakers close the first round in second at 293. Penn State heads to the second round in third place in the team standings at 296 on the par 72, 6,099-yard layout of the Ross Course at the French Lick Resort.
