Lincoln – Three members of Coach Gary Pepin’s track and field team were named to the 2013 Capital One Academic All-District Seven Team by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Thursday. The Nebraska women’s squad produced two of the 11 selections on the district first team, while the men’s squad had one honoree. All three were first-team selections and will advance to the Capital One Academic All-America Team ballot.
The women were led by seniors Mara Griva and Morgan Wilken as first-team picks. Griva will compete in both the long and triple jumps at the NCAA Outdoor Championships next week in Eugene, Ore. Both Griva and Wilken will look for their first CoSIDA Academic All-America selections.
The men’s team was led by senior Bjorn Barrefors. He will look to be named a CoSIDA Academic All-American for the fourth straight year after earning first-team CoSIDA Academic All-America accolades in 2011 and 2012 and third-team honors in 2010.
The 2013 CoSIDA Academic All-America teams are set to be released in late June. Dating back to 1985, the Nebraska track and field team has 22 CoSIDA Academic All-Americans on the men’s side and the women have another 24.
