- Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll (Fall 2013)
One of seven returning lettermen for the Nebraska cross country team in 2014, Peter Spinks hopes to show major gains on the course after his first full season of collegiate cross country training.
The sophomore from Layton, N.J., competed in all four of Nebraska’s regular-season meets as a true freshman in 2013. He also earned a spot on the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll in the fall of 2013.
Spinks claimed his first varsity letter for the Huskers as a true freshman in 2013, competing in all four regular-season meets for the Big Red.
He opened the season by finishing ninth in the University Division in a time of 19:50.78 at the season-opening Augustana Twilight in Sioux Falls, S.D., Sept. 6. Spinks finished as NU’s No. 11 runner and 34th overall (27:01.00) at the Woody Greeno/Nebraska Invitational at Pioneers Park in Lincoln on Sept. 21.
Spinks was NU’s No. 11 runner at the Roy Griak Invitational in Minneapolis on Sept. 28, before closing the regular season as Nebraska’s No. 8 finisher at the Tim Young Invitational in Vermillion, S.D., on Oct. 19. Spinks finished 15th overall in a time of 26:20.85.
In the classroom, Spinks earned a spot on the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll in the fall of 2013.
Before Nebraska (Pope John XXIII)
Spinks posted a 5K personal-best of 16:20 on the cross country course for Pope John XXIII High School. He added outdoor personal-best times of 4:18.00 in the 1,600 meters, 6:14.90 in the 2,000-meter steeplechase and 9:41.80 in the 3,200 meters. Spinks took eighth in the 1,600 at the 2013 New Jersey Non-Public A Group Outdoor State Championships.
The son of Ted and Jennifer Spinks, Peter was born Jan. 31, 1995. He is majoring in mechanical engineering and earned a spot on the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll in the fall of 2013.
