Nebraska Fights Hard In Day Two Matches

Kansas City, Mo. - The Nebraska women's tennis team faced stiff competition in day two matches at the Mizzou Tennis Invite on Saturday. Nebraska began the day facing Oklahoma State  then Mizzou in doubles followed by singles against Princeton.

Oklahoma State dominated the Huskers in doubles action, sweeping all the matches. OSU's No. 47-ranked Kanyapat Narattana and Carla Tur Mari scorced NU's Lisa Andersson and Mary Hanna 8-2 while fellow Cowgirls Maria Alvarez and Karyn Guttormsen bested Nebraska's Brittany Brewster and Maggy Lehmicke 8-3. The last match saw Oklahoma State's Megan and Morgan McCray defeat the scarlet and cream's Maike Zeppernick and Hannah Sulz 8-5. Nebraksa's Izabella Zgierska and Lauren Wagner stepped in to fill the Princeton and Missouri matches and toppled Mizzou's Tracy Dong and Rachel Stuhlmann 8-3. NU's Katerina Matysova partnered with OSU's Mariah Burke in a 1-8 exhibition match loss to MU's Alex Clark and Madison Rhyner.

Next up for the Huskers was doubles against Missouri. Nebraska's Lehmicke and Matysova fell to Mizzou's Cierra Gaytan-Leach and Cassidy Spearman 5-8 as fellow Big Red teammates Brewster and Zgierska were ousted by Tigers Elisha Gabb and Kelli Hine 5-8. NU's Hanna and Zeppernick fell to MU's Clark and Rhyner 6-8 while Huskers Andersson and Sulz stumbled against Missouri's Dong and Stuhlmann 4-8. Wagner paired up with OSU's Burke to lose an exhibition match to OSU's McCray duo 5-8. 

The Cornhuskers finished the match facing Princeton in singles action. Nebraska's Brewster swept past PU's Dorothy Tang 6-1, 6-1 while the Huskers' Hanna suffered an injury forcing her to retire the match, giving Princeton's Alanna Wolff the default victory. The scarlet and cream's Andersson was beat by the Tigers' Emily Hahn 4-6, 1-6 as NU's Lehmicke was narrowly edged out by PU's Katherine Flanigan 4-6, 4-6. Nebraska's Matysova emerged victorious over Mizzou's Rhyner 7-6, 6-4. 

Nebraska is set to resume Sunday at 9 a.m. against Princeton in doubles before closing the invite on the singles courts opposite of Missouri. The results from Sunday's matches will be posted to Huskers.com when available at the conclusion of the day's play.
