Tommy Armstrong
On his role this week

“Right now he (Taylor) practiced yesterday and we are going to take it day by day. Coach told me to prepare like I have for the last couple weeks and whatever decision they come up with, then they come up with it. As for right now I am not really sure.”

On if it is tough being in his situation
“It is not tough. I have been there. I was at the situation at the beginning of the year. At the same time though he is experienced and has earned the right to come back and take that role on. Yeah I am the future being the quarterback here for a couple of years, but at the same time you just have to understand that this guy has been here for four or five years and he has done a lot.”

On if Tommy feels like he has earned the right to play
“Honestly, either way I am going to prepare like I am going to play if my number is called. At the same time like I said before, Taylor has earned that right to practice and play. I am going to take my role however it is.”

On his struggles at Purdue
“It was pretty tough. We prepared for a bunch of things and then they came out and did the opposite of what we prepared for. It is pretty hard when you go out there preparing for something and they do the opposite. We just had to respond the right way. Then we had a couple of plays that I shouldn’t have made those mistakes, and I need to respond to adversity. I put most of the pressure on myself and Coach (Tim) Beck always told me not to do that. He told me after the game we got the win, and no matter how you did we still all went out there and capitalized on some things and you did some things bad here and you did some good things.”

On if Martinez helps out
“He is always with us. No matter if he is in the meeting room or he is out there with us on the sideline. He tells us that we should focus more on something or we made a bad read here and we need to do this or that, but him being a five-year veteran really helps me. He has been under this system for two years and he has had two playbooks in four years. It helps a lot knowing he wants to help us.”

On Minnesota’s defense
“The thing that impresses me the most is how they stick to one thing on defense. They stick to their playbook and don’t change it up. They let you know they are going to try and stop the run and if you are going to beat them you will have to adjust to it. That impresses me, that they can stick to their defense and be able to win games. We are going to have to go out there and run our offense and put our players in the best position to win. Looking forward to that.”
