Orgeron to be Keynote Speaker at NU Coaches Clinic
Regarded as one of the top recruiters and motivators in college coaching, Ed Orgeron will be the headline speaker at the 2014 Nebraska Football Spring Coaches Clinic. Orgeron most recently served as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at USC, and subsequently interim head coach for the Trojans in 2013.
Orgeron took over the USC program at mid-season in 2013, and guided the Trojans to a 6-2 record over the remainder of the year. The 2013 season was Orgeron’s fourth year on the USC staff in his second stint as an assistant in the Trojan program. He previously served as an assistant at USC from 1998 to 2004, helping build USC in a national championship team as defensive line coach and recruiting coordinator. He was named the National Recruiter of the Year in 2004.
Orgeron left USC following the 2004 season to accept the head coaching job at Ole Miss, and consistently signed impressive recruiting classes in Oxford. In addition to his time at Ole Miss and USC, Orgeron has also been an assistant at Miami, Nicholls State, Syracuse and Tennessee in the college ranks and with the New Orleans Saints in the NFL.
The three-day coaches’ clinic will take place in Lincoln from March 6-8, with registration available at bigredfootballschool.com or Huskers.com. In addition to Orgeron’s keynote speech, those in attendance will hear from members of the Nebraska coaching staff as well as a number of successful prep coaches around the country.
The event will take place in the Nebraska football facilities, with the majority of speakers inside the Hawks Championship Center. In addition to outstanding speakers and instruction, those attending the coaches’ clinic will also have the opportunity to watch the first Husker practice of the spring on Saturday morning.
The 2014 clinic will begin on Thursday, March 6, with an evening session with the Husker coaching staff. Defensive coordinator John Papuchis and the Huskers’ defensive stuff will conduct position-specific breakout sessions beginning at 6:15 p.m. The defensive instruction will be followed by special teams and strength and conditioning breakout sessions, and the evening will be capped offensive coordinator Tim Beck and the NU offensive staff.
Orgeron will be the keynote speaker on Friday evening, preceded by a full day of championship coaches from around the country. The event will conclude on Saturday morning with an FCA Breakfast and additional speakers before a late-morning Husker practice.
The lineup of additional speakers at the clinic includes in-state coaches Brian Cargill of Class C-1 state champion Cozad and Brett Froendt from Class A runner-up Omaha Westside. Out-of-state coaches speaking at the clinic will include John Fiore, Head Coach at Montclair (N.J.) High School, Rick Darlington, Head Coach at Apopka (Fla.) High, Rod Sherman, Head Coach at Valor Christian (Colo.) High and John Copeland the defensive coordinator at Tuscaloosa (Ala.) Academy.
Cost of the three-day clinic is $60 per person. For more information and a detailed schedule visit Huskers.com or bigredfootballschool.com, or contact the Nebraska football office at (402) 472-3116.
