Former Husker golfer Ty Capps defeated Tommy Cocha of Argentina on the third playoff hole to capture the PGA Tour Latinoamerica’s Roberto De Vincenzo NEC Invitational Cup in Uruguay on Sunday.
The pair tied for the lead after 72 holes with 16-under-par 272 at the Club de Golf del Uruguay. Capps closed the tournament with a final-round 71 after scores of 66, 67 and 68 over the first three rounds.
Capps led the tournament by one stroke to start the final round before bogeying Nos. 15 and 17. Capps made par on the third playoff hole to edge Cocha and earn the title. Complete results of the event are available on PGATour.com.
Capps lettered at Nebraska in 2006 and 2007, playing a pivotal role in Nebraska’s back-to-back NCAA Regionals appearances during each of those seasons. He won the individual title at the 2006 Branson Creek Invitational as a junior.
