National titles and the opportunity to represent the United States on the world stage are at stake this weekend for more than 300 young collegians competing at the two-day U.S. Outdoor Junior Championships in Eugene, Ore., beginning Saturday, July 5.
Competing for the Huskers will be Anna Peer (women’s 5,000 meters), Joe Harter (men’s 10,000 meters), Tierra Williams (women’s long jump), Jazmin McCoy (women’s long jump), Cody Walton (men’s javelin), Christopher Daniels (men’s discus) and Sarah Firestone (women’s javelin). With four entries, the Husker women have the second-most participants for the meet.
As many as 170 collegiate men and 137 collegiate women are among the 600 young athletes between the ages of 16 and 19 at Historic Hayward Field who will be vying for individual titles and potential berths onto Team USA for the 2014 IAAF World Junior Championships – also to be contested in Eugene from July 22-27.
