Huskers Tied for Seventh After First Round

Rio Grande, P.R. – The Nebraska men’s golf team is tied for seventh place at the Puerto Rico Classic after shooting 296 in the first round at the Rio Mar Golf Club’s River Course on Sunday.

The Huskers’ 8-over-par total is 16 strokes off the lead, set by Georgia on the par-72, 6,902-yard layout. Alabama (285) and Virginia Tech (287) round out the teams in the top three at the event.

Senior Calvin Freeman led NU on Sunday by producing a 1-under par 71. The Table Rock, Neb., native, carded two birdies on the day to put him in a tie for 11th at the Puerto Rico Classic. Josh Reinertson is tied for 22nd after producing 73 in the opening round.

Senior Mike Siwa and sophomore Justin Jennings are in a tie for 45th place after each posting 4-over-par 76s. Ross Dickson shot 78 to put him in a tie for 60th.
