Freeman Paces Huskers on Day One in Arizona

Scottsdale, Ariz. - The Nebraska men's golf team is in ninth place at the Desert Mountain Intercollegiate after shooting 616 over two rounds at the Desert Mountain Club's Outlaw Course on Friday.

The Huskers opened the day with 307 at the par-72, 7,107-yard layout before posting a second-round 309. Oregon leads the competition heading into the final round after producing a 583 total on the first day.

Calvin Freeman led NU on Friday by firing a 6-over-par 150 total over 36 holes. Freeman, a senior from Table Rock, Neb., carded a 6-over-par 78 in the first round before shooting an even-par 72 in the second round. He is tied for 24th heading into Saturday’s final round of the Desert Mountain Intercollegiate.

Senior Josh Reinertson is tied for 33rd place after 36 holes in Arizona with a 153 stroke total. The Gibbon, Neb., native posted a first-round 79 before carding a 2-over par 74.

Justin Jennings opened the first round with a 74 before carding an 82 to put him in a tie for 42nd place with a 156 stroke total. The sophomore is one stroke ahead of senior Ross Dickson. Dickson, a London, England native, fired a first round 76 before shooting an 81. Dickson is in 48th place.

Senior Mike Siwa is tied for 64th after managing scores of 85 and 83 on the first day of action. Ben Maschka played as an individual and shot 168 on the first day.

Saturday's final round begins at 9:30 a.m. (CT) and can be followed on Golfstat.com.
