Huskers Qualify 17 For NCAA Outdoor Championships
LAWRENCE, Kan. - The Nebraska track and field team added six more national qualifiers on Saturday, bringing their total number of entrants to the NCAA Outdoor Championships to 17 after the NCAA West Preliminary Round at Rock Chalk Park. The 17 Huskers who advanced to nationals will compete in Eugene, Ore., June 8-11.
Tierra Williams will add the triple jump to her agenda in Eugene, as she qualified in the long jump on Friday. Williams posted a best triple jump of 43-5 (13.23m) on her final attempt, although she already had qualified with her second attempt. Williams, the Big Ten indoor and outdoor champion in both events, will be making her first outdoor nationals appearance in the triple jump. She entered the regional meet seeded fifth in the nation.
Nick Percy captured his second straight trip to nationals in the discus with a best throw of 194-0 (59.15m) on his second attempt. The Big Ten champion posted the No. 2 mark at the regional.
Antoine Lloyd's 13.83 in his 110-meter hurdles heat earned him a bid to nationals with the ninth-fastest qualifying time. The sophomore ran two relays at nationals last year and will be competing in an individual event for the first time. He'll also be in the 4x100 relay again, as he teamed with Ricco Hall, Malcolm White and Cody Rush to post a time of 39.96, the 11th-fastest time at the regional.
Kaiwan Culmer punched his ticket to Eugene on his second triple jump attempt - 52-4 3/4 (15.97m) - which placed him eighth overall in the event. The sophomore triple jumper will make his first appearance at nationals.
The men's 4x400-meter relay finished off the meet by earning a top-three finish in their heat to move on to nationals with an automatic qualifying spot. Levi Gipson, Tanner Townsend, Andy Neal and Sam Bransby posted a time of 3:04.40 to earn a fourth straight trip to outdoor nationals for the men's 4x400 relay.
