Husker Trio Named Big Ten Distinguished Scholars
Lotte Sjulin posted a perfect 4.0 GPA during the 2016-17 school year and was among 59 Huskers to earn Big Ten Distinguished Scholar awards.

The Nebraska softball team continued its off-field success after three members were named Big Ten Distinguished Scholars on Wednesday, June 28, when the conference announced its highest scholastic honor team across all sports. Taylor Kadavy, Lotte Sjulin and Austen Urness each received the award for their academic achievements during the 2016-17 school year.

The Huskers were honored for producing 3.7 or better grade-point averages during the 2016-17 academic year while also being members of a varsity team at Nebraska. Sjulin posted a perfect 4.0 grade-point average during the fall and spring semesters of 2016-17. A biological sciences major, Sjulin earned the honor for the third time in her career. She is also a three-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree and a seven-time member of the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll. Urness earned the award for the second time in her career. The psychology major is a three-time Academic All-Big Ten award winner and a seven-time member of the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll. Kadavy received the award for the first time. She is majoring in nutrition science and is an Academic-All Big Ten honoree and a three-time member of the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll.

A total of 56 other Nebraska student-athletes were named to the list as well and 12 others, in addition to Sjulin, finished the 2016-17 academic year with 4.0 grade-point averages.

The women's swimming and diving program and the women's track and field program produced the most Big Ten Distinguished Scholars at Nebraska by sport, with eight honorees each. The Husker women's soccer team added seven distinguished scholars, while the men's track and field program added six to lead the NU men's teams. 

The Nebraska men's gymnastics team added five Big Ten Distinguished Scholars, which tied for the highest total by a men's gymnastics team in the conference. The Husker wrestlers also added five distinguished scholars. The NU football program featured three distinguished scholars, while the baseball, bowling, women's gymnastics, rifle and men's tennis teams all added two award winners. The men's tennis team's two distinguished scholars also tied for the conference lead in the sport.
