Huskers Ranked Sixth in Preseason Poll

By NU Athletic Communications

The Nebraska rifle team sits in sixth on the Collegiate Rifle Coaches Association Preseason Poll.

The Huskers finished sixth nationally last year at the 2017 NCAA Championships in Columbus, Ohio.  Among those returning to the team this year are two All-Americans in Dacotah Faught and Samantha Petersen, along with seven additional returners and three freshmen.

Head coach Ashley MacAllister, assisted by Rick Johnson, looks to lead the team back to the NCAA Championships for a sixth consecutive year in 2018 and break the program record for most consecutive trips to the NCAA Championships.

Defending national champions West Virginia took first in the poll, with TCU in second and Murray State in third.  Kentucky is ranked fourth, Ohio State is ranked fifth, Alaska is ranked seventh, and Air Force is in the eighth spot to round out the top eight teams in the poll.

All of the Huskers’ opponents this season are ranked in the Top 20, including four (West Virginia, TCU, Kentucky, Ohio State) in the top five.

NU kicks off the 2017-18 season on Sept. 24 with the NCAA Test Event in Charleston, South Carolina on Sept. 24. The exhibition will provide the team with a chance to compete in a match setting before the season starts.  The regular season begins on Oct. 14 when the Huskers host defending national champions West Virginia.  The match is set to begin at 9 a.m. Check for more information.
