Huskers Ready for Sam Bell Invitational

The Nebraska cross country team continues the season with the Sam Bell Invitational in Bloomington, Indiana on Saturday, Sept. 30. The women's 6K race is set to begin at 10 a.m., and the men's 8K race will begin at 11 a.m. on the IU Championship Cross Country Course. The site of Saturday's meet will also serve as the site of the Big Ten Championships this season on Oct. 29.

The men and women are both coming off a second-place finish at the Greeno/Dirksen Invitational at Pioneers Park on Sept. 16. Both teams finished third at the Augustana Twilight to open the season on Sept. 1.

Senior Austin Post led the men’s team at the last meet, placing third overall in the race with a time of 25:46.7. Redshirt freshman Mark Freyhof finished in fifth place (25:50.9) with junior Eric Karl II following in 10th place (26:20.2). Junior Wyatt McGuire is set to compete for the Huskers for the first time this season on Saturday. 

The women’s squad was led by senior Bonnie Smith with a seventh-place finish overall with a time of 22:20.0. Sophomore Rachel Brush placed ninth with a time of 22:22.8 and redshirt freshman Lillian Markusch followed in 12th place with a time of 22:38.6.
