Huskers Lead Big Ten in NFCA Academic Team Rankings
The Easton/NFCA Academic Team rankings for the 2016-17 school year were announced and the Nebraska softball team ranked 26th with a team GPA of 3.494. The Huskers were the highest Big Ten team on the NFCA list, beating Minnesota (3.460), Indiana (3.400), Illinois (3.350), Ohio State (3.301), Wisconsin (3.258), Rutgers (3.247), Northwestern (3.241) and Michigan (3.111). NU also had the second-highest GPA among Power Five Conference schools, coming only behind Alabama (3.647).
The rankings recognize the academic prowess of softball teams across seven membership divisions. Upper Iowa University (NCAA DII) posted the top college GPA with a 3.813. Garnering the highest GPA in the other college divisions were Western Carolina University (NCAA DI - 3.673), Newberry College (NCAA DIII - 3.675), Siena Heights University (NAIA - 3.780) and College of Southern Idaho (Junior College – 3.686).
This continues Nebraska’s off-field success, as the Huskers lead all softball programs nationally with 30 CoSIDA Academic All-America awards.
