By NU Athletic Communications

Current Huskers Colton McCrystal and Tyler Berger, as well as former Husker and current Nebraska volunteer assistant coach Tim Lambert will compete this weekend for a chance to make the United States U23 national team at the USA Wrestling U23 World Team Trials, on Sunday at the Mayo Civic Center in Rochester, Minn.

The three Huskers are all competing in the freestyle competition, which will begin at 9 a.m. Sunday with the preliminaries, quarterfinals and semifinals. The best-of-three finals series will begin at 3:30 p.m.

Athletes between 18-23 years of age are eligible to compete this weekend in Minnesota. The event serves as the qualifying event in all three Olympic disciplines for the inaugural United World Wrestling U23 World Championships, set for Nov. 21-26 in Bydgoszcz, Poland.

McCrystal, a senior from Sergeant Bluff, Iowa, will compete at 65 kg in the freestyle competition. Berger, who won All-America honors as a sophomore in 2017, is set to compete in freestyle at 70 kg, while Lambert, who wrapped his career as a Husker in 2017, will compete in the freestyle competition at 57 kg.

All three wrestlers will be representing the Nebraska Regional Training Center.

A live broadcast of the event, which runs Saturday (women’s freestyle and men’s Greco Roman) though Sunday (men’s freestyle and men’s Greco Roman), will be available on Trackwrestling (subscription required).
