Huskers Announce Four Signees to 2018 Class
LINCOLN, Neb. – Head Coach Dan Kendig is pleased to announce the signing of four future Huskers to the 2018 women’s gymnastics signing class.
Abigail Johnston (Parkland Fla.), Sarah Hargrove (Hendersonville, N.C.), Megan Thompson (Gilbert, Ariz.) and Kaylee Quinn (Rockaway N.J.) have signed letters of intent with the Huskers and will join the roster for the 2019 season.
“This is a great group of people, first of all, they are four people that have bonded extremely well. We just had them in for their official visits this year, and what a great weekend,” head coach Dan Kendig said. “The athletes and their families have really connected, and they make up a strong class, top to bottom. They will have great success through their careers at Nebraska.”
Johnston is a Level 10 gymnast and trains at American Twisters out of Coconut Creek, Fla. She was a 2017 J.O. National qualifier, posting a top-five finish on beam and two ties for 11th place on vault and floor. She is the daughter of Michael and Amy Johnston.
Hargrove trains at Cincinnati Gymnastics as a Level 10 gymnast. She finished in third place in the all-around at the 2017 J.O. National Championships. She is the daughter of Douglas and Myra Hargrove.
Thompson, a senior at Basha High School in Chandler, Ariz., is the daughter of Hugh and Sherrie Thompson. Thompson trains at Desert Light Gymnastics and qualified for the Region 1 Championship in 2017, where she finished in second on floor and sixth on beam.
Quinn is the latest Level 10 gymnast to sign with the Huskers out of North Star Gymnastics in Boonton, N.J. Quinn reached the 2017 J.O. National Championships where her best performance came on floor as she finished in first place. She is the daughter of Jeff and Lisa Quinn.
The women’s gymnastics team will host their annual Intrasquad meet on Nov. 17 at 6 p.m. CT in Mabel Lee Hall, and season tickets are currently on sale on Huskers.com. The Huskers will open the 2018 season on Jan. 13 on the road against Penn State.
