Huskers Lead Heading Into Final Day of Warhawk Invitational

Kenosha, Wis.- The second ranked Nebraska bowling team sits in first place heading into the final day of competition at the Warhawk Invitational with a total pinfall of 10,440 and an overall record of 10-0, after going 5-0 in five traditional matches on Saturday in the tournament held in Kenosha, Wis. 

The Huskers opened the day with a win over top-ranked McKendree 1,114-1,007. NU earned another victory over No. 3 Arkansas State 1,076-999. Nebraska continued their winning-streak with two more wins over Elmhurst and Valparaiso 1025-835 and 965-950, respectively. The Cornhuskers closed out the day with a win, beating Lincoln Memorial 1,057-1,016. 

Senior Julia Bond led the Huskers in the individual standings with an average of 234.8. Her performance not only earned her second place in the individual standings but also a new career-high and the tenth-highest single tournament average in program history.

Sophomore Raquel Orozco also landed a top-ten finish after earning an average of 222 good for fifth place. Junior Meghan Straub was not far behind the two, in twelfth-place finish with an average of 208.2. 

Arkansas State is in second place with a pinfall of 10,294, followed by Vanderbilt in third and McKendree in fourth to round out the top four.

The Cornhuskers will face Arkansas State in the opening round of the best-of-seven Baker format championship tournament on Sunday morning at 8:30 a.m. (CT). The winner of the match will go on to play in the championship final and the loser will go on to play the winner of the Vanderbilt-McKendree match for a spot in the final.
