Huskers Begin Competition at Husker Invite

LINCOLN, Neb. - The Nebraska track and field team kicked off day one of the Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational in front of a crowd of 1,237 at the Bob Devaney Sports Center on Friday. The Husker athletes achieved three new all-time top-10 marks on the day.

Andy Neal was the winner of the 400 meters with a season-best time of 47.19, which is the 10th-fastest time in NU history on a standard track. Neal's time moved him to third in the Big Ten this season. Sam Bransby took second in the event with a season-best time of 47.91. 

Kierra Griggs was the runner-up in the 400 meters with a personal-best time of 53.26, which ranks seventh in NU indoor history and is the second-fastest time in the Big Ten this season. 

Raynesha Lewis took second in the long jump with a new indoor personal best of 19-7 1/2 (5.98m). 

Nick Percy was third in the weight throw after a toss of 65-2 1/4 (19.87m). Tyler Loontjer finished third in the pole vault with a season-best clearance of 17-1 1/2 (5.22m). Elijah Lucy took third in the long jump after a season-best performance of 23-9 1/2 (7.25m). 

Antoine Lloyd posted a season best of 7.79 in the 60-meter hurdles to take the top spot in prelims. Lloyd's time ranks 14th in the nation and led a group of four qualifiers for the final. Jasmine Barge led three Husker women who qualified for the final with a time of 8.65. 

Lakayla Harris ran a 60-meters personal best of 7.39 to earn an automatic qualifying bid to the finals on Saturday. Harris' time ranks fourth in school history and is the second-fastest time in the Big Ten this season. 

Shauna Tweedy finished seventh in the pentathlon with 3,110 points. Cale Wagner is in fifth place in the heptathlon with 3,133 points heading into tomorrow's final three events. Cody Walton is one point behind at 3,132 in sixth place. Jared Seay is in eighth place with 3,092 points. 

Saturday's events commence at 9:30 a.m. with the heptathlon 60-meter hurdles. Field events and running events start at 11:30 a.m.
