Scholar-Athlete Weber Honored to Earn Solich Postgraduate Scholarship
Overlooking Tom Osborne Field from the Skyline Club in Memorial Stadium, Husker Football captain and 1st Team Academic-All American Chris Weber, was awarded the annual Frank Solich Postgraduate Scholarship. Created in 2001 to honor the legacy of Coach Solich and aid in student-athlete career development, fifteen Huskers have now received the scholarship which can be used for continuing education within the University of Nebraska system including the College of Law, College of Dentistry and the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC).
Presented by teammates of Coach Solich and donors, Tom Smith, Tom Rodeno and Bob Sawdon along with their guests, joined Nebraska Athletic Director Bill Moos, Academic staffers Dennis Leblanc and Katie Jewell, Development Officers Alex Kringen and Leslie Bargen and the entire Life Skills staff were on hand for the celebration. Weber, who is already accepted to UNMC, was thrilled to earn the honor. “Coach Solich stands for the core values of Nebraska. Hardworking, humble and team-oriented. I appreciate the fact that he and his supporters have created this fund to help with our next steps,” concluded Weber. Parents Tom and Cindy Weber were also in attendance echoing how thankful they are to have so many people genuinely care for Chris and his future. Said Cindy, “there truly is no place like Nebraska!”
