Huskers Open Spring Season in Puerto Rico

The Nebraska women’s golf team opens its 2018 spring schedule by traveling to the Lady Puerto Rico Classic hosted by Purdue at the Rio Mar Resort and Country Club in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico., Feb. 11-13. 

The Huskers will be challenged by an 11-team field that includes Big Ten Conference counterparts Maryland and Purdue, along with teams from Arkansas, Augusta, Colorado, East Carolina, Iowa State, Kent State, North Carolina State and TCU in a six-count-four format over 54 holes of competition.

The three-day tournament begins with 18 holes of play and a shotgun start at 6 a.m. (CT) on Sunday, Feb. 11 on the River Course at the Rio Mar Country Club. Monday’s second round will feature another 6 a.m. (CT) shotgun start, while Tuesday’s final round features a 5:30 a.m. (CT) shotgun start.Live scoring of the tournament will be available from

Nebraska Coach Robin Krapfl and the Huskers will be looking to build off the momentum they gained in the fall. Sophomore Kate Smith earned a pair of Big Ten Golfer-of-the-Week awards while posting a trio of top-10 finishes in five events. She will be playing out of the top spot in Nebraska’s lineup in Puerto Rico.

Senior Audrey Judd added a trio of top-10 finishes, including a tie for first at the Chip-N Club Invitational, while adding a Big Ten Golfer-of-the-Week award of her own. Her 73.64 stroke average led the Huskers during the fall, but she will not compete in Puerto Rico as she recovers from an injury.

Sophomore Annie Sritragul (Bangkok, Thailand) produced a breakout fall campaign with Nebraska’s No. 2 stroke average (74.21) while claiming three top-10 finishes.

Freshman Noor Ahmed (Folsom, Calif.) added a solid fall campaign with NU’s No. 4 stroke average (76.43).

Another Californian, sophomore Jessica Haraden (Thousand Oaks) and sisters Haley and Hannah Thiele (Wahoo, Neb.) round out Nebraska’s six-player lineup in Puerto Rico.
