Huskers Jump to No. 29 in ITA Rankings
Lincoln, Neb. -- The Nebraska women's tennis team jumped 13 spots in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's national rankings on Tuesday to No. 29. This is the highest team ranking for the Huskers since 2013, when they finished the season at No. 16.
The Big Red (9-2) climbed from No. 42 to No. 29 nationally following a 4-2 victory over then-No. 35 Kansas State in Manhattan last Friday. The Huskers have two wins over teams in this week’s ITA poll, including Wichita State (No. 21) and Kansas State, which jumped to No. 28.
“We are incredibly excited about where we are at this point in the season,” Head Coach Scott Jacobson said. “In addition, we look forward to the challenges that we face this weekend in UMKC and Illinois State, a much improved program.”
Nebraska welcomes both the UMKC Kangaroos (Friday at 5 p.m.) and the Illinois State Redbirds (Sunday at 11 a.m.) to the Dillon Tennis Center this weekend. Admission to all home tennis matches is free. The pair of duals over the weekend marks the end of non-conference competition, with the Huskers scheduled to take on No. 11 Ohio State on Wednesday, March 7, at Noon in Columbus, Ohio.
“The remainder of our season is the Big Ten Conference schedule,” Jacobson said. “Our conference, as a whole, is the strongest it has been in five years. We are looking forward to some phenomenal competition and embracing these opportunities that lie directly in front of us.”
