Huskers in 12th at Desert Mountain Intercollegiate
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. - The Nebraska men's golf team concluded the first day of competition at Outlaw Course for the Desert Mountain Intercollegiate on Saturday. The Huskers currently are in 12th place after golfing for a combined score of 617 at the end of the second round. NU was one of three teams that finished the second round; the rest of the field will compete in round two on Sunday due to play being postponed for darkness.
Sophomore Cameron Jones led the way for the Husker squad in the first day, coming in 44th place overall with a total score of 153. Jones will look to continue to carry his momentum and capture his first team-leading score of the season on Sunday.
Junior Captain Jackson Wendling came in second in the lineup for the Huskers with a score of 154 and tied for 45th overall. The NU squad has three golfers tied for 56th; Jace Guthmiller, Sean Song and Daniel Pearson each have a score of 158. Pearson is competing in the individual slot.
Junior Dylan McCabe rounds out the Nebraska lineup in 65th place. McCabe golfed for a score of 162 in the first day of competition.
Kansas currently sits in first place as the team to beat. They golfed for a first round score of 280. The Huskers will look to improve on their day one score at the invitational as they look to climb the standings in the final day of competition on Sunday.
