NU Finishes 12th at Desert Mountain Intercollegiate
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. - The Nebraska men's golf team completed the final day of competition at the Desert Mountain Intercollegiate on Sunday. The Huskers posted a third round score of 304 and finished with 921 points total, ending up in 12th place in the standings. Kansas captured the first place crown of the tournament with ease, posting a total score of 853. The final standings can be found here.
Junior captain Jackson Wendling led the Huskers with a total score of 229 after a third round stroke of 75. Wendling came in tied for 40th overall and has either led or tied for the leading score on the NU squad four times this season.
Fellow Junior captain Jace Guthmiller was the next highest finisher in the Husker lineup. Guthmiller golfed for a third round score of 72 and finish tied for 43rd with 230 points total. Sean Song and Cameron Jones tied for 58th place with 235 points each and posted strokes of 77 and 82 in the final day, respectively.
Freshman Daniel Pearson came in at 61st after a third round stroke of 78. Pearson had a combined total of 236 and was competing in the individual slot. Dylan McCabe rounded out the Husker lineup tied for 64th following a third round score of 80 and a total of 242.
The Huskers will look to continue to improve as they get their next shot at competition at the Big Horn Invitational back in Palm Desert, Calif. on Friday, Mar 23. There are only two more invitationals left on the schedule before Nebraska competes in the Big Ten Championships in Baltimore, Md. on Apr 27.
