Nebraska in Ninth at Hawkeye Invitational
IOWA CITY, Iowa - The Nebraska men's golf team completed round one of the Hawkeye Invitational at Finkbine Golf Course on Friday. The Huskers currently sit in ninth place after golfing for a combined score of 298. Iowa State leads the field with 280 as the current score to beat.
Sophomore Tanner Owen golfed for one of his best strokes of the season, posting a 72. Owen currently sits tied for 17th place and will look to complete his first top-20 finish of the season.
Junior captain Jackson Wendling and freshman Daniel Pearson tied for the next best score on the team, posting scores of 75. Wendling and Pearson are currently tied for 37th heading into the final two rounds. Junior captain Jace Guthmiller is tied for 49th after a stroke of 76.
Junior Sean Song rounds out the Husker lineup tied for 63rd, with a score of 79. Freshman Patrick Clare also traveled with the team and is competing in the invidual slot, and he is currently in 75th after a stroke of 85.
The Huskers will look to climb the leaderboards in the final day of competition. Final results are expected to be finalized sometime in the late afternoon on Saturday and a full recap of the event will be available on Huskers.com once the results have been confirmed.
