Ahmed Leads Huskers at Big Ten Championship
Noor Ahmed shot an even-par 72 to lead Nebraska in the opening round of the Big Ten Women's Golf Championship in Maineville, Ohio, on Friday afternoon.
Ahmed, a freshman from Folsom, Calif., closed her round with three birdies and three pars in her final seven holes to complete an impressive opening 18 holes at the conference championship. Ahmed, who put up nine pars through her first 10 holes, overcame three bogeys to match the second-best round of her collegiate career with a 72 on the 6,357-yard layout at TPC River's Bend.
Ahmed, who enters Saturday's second round in a tie for 12th place individually, helped the Huskers post a 12-over-par 300 team score in the opening round. Nebraska sits in 10th place after the first 18 holes.
Sophomore Kate Smith (Detroit Lakes, Minn.) opened the day on fire with three birdies on her first four holes before going seven-over-par during the next nine holes.
