Huskers Add Hansen to 2018-19 Roster
Nebraska Coach Robin Krapfl has announced the addition of Illinois high school standout Nicole Hansen to the 2018-19 women's golf roster.
Hansen, a strong all-around athlete and academic performer, was a three-time Illinois Division 2A High School Championship qualifier at Lake Park High School. She began to focus her attention on golf late in her high school career after also competing in pole vault and hurdles as a freshman and sophomore. Hansen, who carried a 5.0 GPA in high school, has earned a Ruth Leverton academic scholarship to attend Nebraska.
Krapfl said Hansen will bring outstanding potential to the Husker program.
"We are excited about Nicole’s potential. She is a great athlete with the strength to generate a lot of clubhead speed," Krapfl said. "She has been working with some outstanding golf professionals to prepare herself for college golf. It will be fun to see how quickly she can develop now that her athletic focus is just on golf."
Hansen produced a solid career at Lake Park High School in Illinois. She was a three-time individual state qualifier for the Lancers, while also capturing a regional and sectional title. She tied for 23rd with a two-round total of 153 (76-77) at the Division 2A state championships as a senior in the fall of 2017. She was also a state qualifier as a freshman (2014) and junior (2016).
A four-year letterwinner for Coach Jeff Henrickson, Hansen was an All-DuPage Valley Conference performer and a four-time team MVP. She was also a regular competitor in Illinois Junior Golf Association events.
A talented all-around athlete, Hansen was also a two-time varsity letterwinner in track and field as a freshman and sophomore, competing in the pole vault and the hurdles. She was also a two-time letterwinner as a cheerleader.
She was also an excellent performer in the classroom as a four-time academic all-conference selection who spent all eight semesters on Lake Park's highest honor roll. Hansen, who plans to major in accounting and finance at Nebraska, said she chose the Huskers over Bradley and Central Michigan because of the program's overall atmosphere.
"The coaches and the team were very welcoming and the campus was beautiful and big," Hansen said. "I also liked the Midwestern values, all of the opportunities and the amazing practice facilities."
Hansen joins a 2018-19 Husker freshman class that includes Vanessa Bouvet (Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei) and Megan Whittaker (Elkhorn, Neb.).
