Four Huskers to Compete at USATF Championships
Four athletes with Husker ties will compete at the 2018 USATF Outdoor Championships this weekend at Drake Stadium in Des Moines, Iowa.
Antoine Lloyd (110-meter hurdles), Landon Bartel (high jump) and Cody Walton (javelin), who were seniors for the Huskers during the 2018 season, and rising senior Shylia Riley (long jump) will compete and attempt to qualify for national titles and spots on Team USA for the 2018 Athletics World Cup. The USATF Championships begin Thursday and run through Sunday.
Walton and Riley will be the first Huskers to compete at the meet, as Walton will compete in the men's javelin at 2:10 p.m. (CT) and Riley will be in action in the women's long jump at 2:15 p.m. on Saturday. Lloyd will compete in the men's 110-meter hurdles on Saturday, as the first round of the event is scheduled for 2:35 p.m. The semifinals of the event will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, while the final will be held later that afternoon at 4:52 p.m. Lloyd was a first-team All-American in the event at the 2018 NCAA Championships, where he finished fifth.
Bartel will compete in the men's high jump on Sunday at 1:45 p.m. He earned second-team All-America honors at the NCAA Championships earlier this month in the high jump, as he placed ninth.
Event champions at the USATF Championships will qualify for the 2018 Athletics World Cup, held July 14-15 in London, England. The national championships also serves as a selection meet for the 2018 Thorpe Cup in Fayetteville, Arkansas, on July 27-28.
NBC will broadcast two hours of the meet live on Saturday and Sunday from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. CT. The meet can also be streamed live throughout the weekend through NBC Sports Gold. Tickets are available at draketix.com/usatf.
In addition, triple jumper Kaiwan Culmer, who was a senior in 2017-18, will be competing at the Bahamas National Championships, which run from Thursday to Sunday.
