Schnell Set for British Open
Angus, Scotland - Former Husker golfer Brady Schnell will be competing in the 147th British Open, July 19-22, at Carnoustie Golf Links. Schnell will tee off at 12:45 a.m. (CT) in the second group along with Erik Van Rooyen and Matthew Southgate for the first round and at 5:45 a.m. (CT) in the No. 28 group for the second group.
Schnell, an Omaha native, recently won the Wichita Open on the Web.com Tour and with the win, vaulted to 12th place on the money list with $156,478. A year ago it took $157,823 to be one of the top 25 money winners who went on to earn their PGA Tour cards. Schnell also won the 112 VISA Open de Argentina and the Shell Championship.
The British Open field consists of 156 players, mostly made up of the world's leading professionals as well as winners of the top amateur championships. The field will be cut to the top 70 players and ties after 36 holes. If there is a tie after all 72 holes have been played, a four-hole playoff will be played to determine a winner. If a tie still remains, the remaining players will continue as sudden death until there is a winner.
Thursday's action from Scotland begins on the Golf Channel at 12:30 a.m. (CT). The coverage on Golf Channel starts at the same time on Friday, and both days will run until 3 p.m. (CT).
For Saturday's third round, the Golf Channel will televise from 3:30 a.m. to 6 a.m., before NBC takes over from 6 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Sunday's final round TV times will be the same as Saturday. Live video streaming for the British Open is available on theopen.com.
