Huskers Prepped for Cardinal Regional Challenge
SIMPSONVILLE, Ky. - The Nebraska men's golf team is set to appear at its second invitational of the season and will compete at the Cardinal Regional Challenge this weekend. The event will take place at the University of Louisville Golf Club, a par-72, 7,101-yard course, and will feature a competitive 16-team field. Play will begin on the morning of Friday, Sept. 14.
Two teams in the field are in the top 20 of the most recent Golfstat.com national rankings and six squads are among the top 50: No. 17 Duke, No. 20 North Carolina, No. 23 USF, No. 27 Kentucky, No. 28 Wake Forest, No. 48 Louisville.
The same Huskers that traveled to the Rod Myers Invitational will again be making appearances in the lineup this weekend. Senior Jackson Wendling led the NU squad with a total of 226 and placed tied for 47th. He will be the first to compete on Friday.
Junior Tanner Owen will be returning to the lineup after combining for a score of 228 and a tied-for-53rd place finish. Seniors Dylan McCabe and Jace Guthmiller each carded a score of 234 (T-63rd) and look to bounce back and make an impact in the second event of the season.
Freshman Tristan Nelko will be back in the Husker lineup after getting off to a promising start last weekend and finishing tied for 69th with a final score of 235. With his first collegiate competition now under his belt, Nelko hopes to continue to make strides heading into week two.
