Huskers Tie Rutgers in Big Ten Opener, 1-1
Piscataway, N.J. – The Nebraska soccer team (4-3-2, 0-0-1 Big Ten) opened conference play with a 1-1 draw against Rutgers at Yurcak Field on Friday evening.
The Huskers struck first when senior Savanah Uveges scored a penalty kick goal in the 23rd minute. Her team-high fourth goal of the season came after Rutgers committed a foul in the box. Uveges also has three assists this season, giving her a team-high 11 points. She has scored at least one point in six of Nebraska’s nine games this season.
The Scarlet Knights scored the equalizer in the 86th minute when Taylor Aylmer found the back of the net off a rebound. Rutgers outshot the Huskers by a 17-7 margin and held a 5-1 advantage in corner kicks, but NU’s defense held strong to earn the draw.
Junior goalkeeper Aubrei Corder, making her 50th career start, earned six saves, which tied her season high. She surpassed the 150-career save milestone on Friday night and tied Kate Wright (2003-04) for fifth on NU’s career saves list with 153.
Offensively, Elyse Huber took a team-high two shots against Rutgers, while five other Huskers managed one shot apiece.
With the result, the all-time series between the two schools remains tied at 0-0-4, dating back to the first meeting in 2014. Following Friday night’s tie, Rutgers sits at 4-1-3 with a 0-0-1 record in Big Ten play this season.
