Huskers Finish 3rd, 10th at Loyola Lakefront
The Nebraska cross country team continued its season at the Loyola Lakefront Invitational on Saturday morning in Chicago, Illinois. The Husker men finished third at the meet with a score of 141 points in the 8K, while the Big Red women placed 10th with 304 points in the 5K.
George Kusche paced the men’s squad, placing fourth with a time of 23:57.95. Kusche has now finished in the top five in all three meets this season. Mark Freyhof was the second member of the Big Red to cross the finish line and placed ninth with a time of 24:27.91. Ryan Eastman was 41st with a time of 25:13.64. Karson LeComte finished two spots behind Eastman (43rd) and clocked a time of 25:14.33. Jack Slagle rounded out the top five for the Huskers and finished 44th with a time of 25:14.34.
Judi Jones led the women’s team in the 5K with a time of 17:37.14 and placed 22nd. Erika Freyholf was the next Nebraska runner to cross the finish line and finished 28th with a time of 17:44.19. Elsa Forsberg clocked a time of 18:26.17 and placed 70th. Rachel Brush and Emma Bresser rounded out the top five for the Huskers with times of 18:37.83 (83rd) and 18:53.81 (101st), respectively.
Nebraska will now prepare for the Bradley Classic and Wisconsin Pre-Nationals. The Bradley Classic will be run at Peoria, Illinois on Oct. 12 and the Wisconsin Pre-Nationals will take place in Madison, Wisconsin on Oct. 13.
