Huskers' Unbeaten Streak Ends in Loss to Iowa
Lincoln, Neb. – The No. 22 Nebraska soccer team (8-4-3, 4-1-2 Big Ten) saw its seven-game unbeaten streak come to an end on a rainy Friday evening at Hibner Stadium when Iowa topped the Huskers, 2-1.
The Huskers, ranked 18th in the RPI, fell behind 2-0 against the Hawkeyes before scoring with 14 minutes left, but couldn’t find the equalizer in the closing minutes.
NU is tied for first in the Big Ten with 14 points despite suffering its first conference loss of the season. Rutgers (4-0-2 Big Ten) also has 14 points following its win over Northwestern on Thursday night.
Iowa struck first in the 13th minute when Kaleigh Haus found the back of the net for her third goal of the season. The Hawkeyes took a 1-0 lead into halftime despite NU holding a 3-2 advantage in shots. Iowa extended the lead in the 49th minute when Devin Burns scored her first goal of the season.
The Huskers outshot Iowa in the second half, 8-4, but only scored once despite five shots on goal for the game. In the 77th minute, Elyse Huber fired a shot into the back of the net off a corner kick from Brenna Ochoa. It marked Huber’s first goal of the season and eighth of her career. Ochoa has a team-high six assists this season, which ranks tied for second in the Big Ten.
