NU Finishes Day One at Bobby Bayliss Invitational
Notre Dame, Ind. -- Three Huskers competed in several singles and doubles matches on Friday, the first day of competition at the Bobby Bayliss Invitational, hosted by the University of Notre Dame.
Freshman Victor Moreno Lozano started off the day dueling with senior Daniel Rayl from Notre Dame. In a three-set thriller, Moreno knocked off Rayl 4-6, 7-6, 13-11.
In another three-set contest, senior Jon Meyer fought hard, but couldn't overcome Michigan State senior Colin Harvey, in a 5-7, 6-0, 11-9 loss. Junior Micah Klousia lost a tough match to junior Johnathan Small (Notre Dame), 6-4, 6-4.
In doubles play, Moreno and Klousia teamed up and had a good match, but not enough to beat the experienced duo of the Fighting Irish, as juniors Matt Gamble and Grayson Broadus earned a 6-4 win. Later on, Moreno and Meyer fell short to Paul Gota/Daniel Rayl (Notre Dame), 6-0.
The tournament continues on Saturday with two flights of singles, starting at 8 a.m. CT. The final rounds of singles and doubles will take place on Sunday, also starting at 8 a.m. CT.
