Madison, Wis. - The Nebraska cross country team completed its regular season Saturday at the Wisconsin Pre-Nationals in Madison, Wisconsin. The men placed 22nd in the 8K with 542 points, while the women finished 28th in the 6K with 671 points.

“The Pre-Nationals is a competition we need to keep coming back to,” Harris said. “We need to keep focusing on running with these elite teams.”

George Kusche paced the men’s squad for the third time this season and finished 24th, clocking a time of 24:15.3. Mark Freyhof was second for the Big Red and placed 50th with a time of 24:38.2. Bailey Timmons completed the course in 25:25.7 and finished 140th. Karson LeComte and Myles Fleming ran times of 25:47.5 (161st) and 25:51.4 (167th), respectively.

“It is vital for George (Kusche) and our team to have him compete at the top of the Big Ten,” Harris said. “When you have a guy that likes to go to the front of the race everyone else feeds off that. He was not happy with his race today and that is a good approach to have, not be satisfied.”

Erika Freyhof led the women’s team and placed 55th with a personal best time of 21:17.9. Judi Jones ran a PR time of 21:45.1 and finished 94th. Rachel Brush was the third Husker to cross the finish line and clocked a time of 22:18.6 to place 151st. Elsa Forsberg completed the course two spots behind Brush and finished with a time of 22:20.2 (153rd). Grace Pagone rounded out the top five for Nebraska and recorded a PR time of 23:33.4 (218th).

“Erika (Freyhof) had her best race as a Husker,” said Harris. “She looked smooth and under control today. Much better than in Chicago. Judi (Jones) can run better. At the Big Ten Championships we need the 1-2 punch from them. They train together, and they should race together at the championship.”

Nebraska will now prepare to host the Big Ten Championships at the Mahoney Golf Course on Sunday, October 28.
