Huskers Come Up Short Against No. 3 West Virginia

Morgantown, W. Va. - The No. 9 Nebraska rifle team fell short of a victory on Sunday against a talented West Virginia team, 4,660-4,712. 

The Huskers produced a team score of 2,302 in smallbore, led by junior Samantha Peterson's mark of 584. Kayla Gadeken and Emily Cheramie contributed to the effort with 578 and 575, respectively. Rachel Yager and Elizabeth Lorentz both scored 565 to round out the Huskers. Although not squadded, Bailey Powell fired 573, a  mark that landed her in the 16th spot for smallbore overall. 

Nebraska assembled its best air rifle effort of the season, with a final score of 2,358. Samantha Peterson was out front with 592, a mark that was only one point behind her personal best. Bailey Powell was close behind with 590. Kayla Gadeken, Elizabeth Ewert and Elizabeth Lorentz provided consistency for NU, each with 588. 

West Virginia fired a team score of 2,345 in smallbore, led by Milica Babic's 589. Ginny Thrasher led the Mountaineers to a 2,367 air rifle score with a mark of 595. 

The Huskers will have a week off before they take the range again in Akron, Ohio on Nov. 3-4. The team will face Akron on Nov. 3 and Morehead State the following day, with match action beginning at 7 a.m. on both days. Fans can follow the action on social media.
