Kate Smith fired a season-best 68 to climb into a tie for fourth individually through 36 holes at the UNLV Collegiate Showdown in Boulder City, Nev., on Monday.

Smith, a junior from Detroit Lakes, Minn., enters Tuesday's final round at five-under-par 139 through two rounds, just four strokes behind the tournament leader Ellie Slama from Oregon State (67-68-135). Smith, who will be shooting for her second top-10 finish of the fall season, is just one stroke back of Augusta's Maggie Ashmore (67-71-138) and Tulsa's Lorena Tseng (69-69-138).

Smith was three-under on the front nine with three consecutive birdies on holes No. 1, 2 and 3, while adding a fourth birdie on No. 7. She also carded birdies on the 10th and 16th holes, while settling for bogeys on No. 4 and No. 12 during the day.

Despite the strong second round from Smith, the Huskers slipped two spots in the team standings into a tie for ninth at 584 in the 17-team field. Nebraska shot a plus-six 294 team score on the par-72, 6,343-yard layout of the Boulder Creek Golf Club on Monday.

Sophomore Noor Ahmed (Folsom, Calif.) produced her second straight solid round with a one-over-par 73 to head into the final round in a tie for 27th at 145 (72-73). Ahmed produced 15 pars, one birdie and a pair of bogeys on the day.

Freshman Vanessa Bouvet (Brunei), who got off to a strong start with a 71 on Sunday, settled for a four-over 76 on Monday to slip into a tie for 40th in a crowded tournament field. Junior Haley Thiele (Wahoo, Neb.) produced NU's fourth score of the day with a five-over-par 77. She heads to the third round tied for 72nd at 153 in a 90-player field.

Oregon State maintained the top spot on the team leaderboard with a 10-under-par 278 on Monday. The Beavers (558) own a slim two-stroke lead over second-place Tulsa (560), as the Golden Hurricane notched the best round of the day with a 12-under 276. Augusta sits in third at 565, while Long Beach State (569) and Idaho (570) round out the top five teams in the standings.

The Huskers will conclude their stay at the UNLV Collegiate Showdown with Tuesday's third round, which is scheduled to begin with a shotgun start at 10 a.m. (CT).
