Huskers Earn All-Big Ten Recognition

By NU Athletic Communications

The Nebraska soccer team saw three players named to the All-Big Ten teams and one player earn All-Freshman Team honors from the conference on Friday.

For the second consecutive season, defender Sinclaire Miramontez garnered first-team recognition from the conference. A junior from Lenexa, Kan., Miramontez also made the All-Freshman Team in 2016. This season, she started the first 17 games and played nearly every minute before suffering a season-ending knee injury.

Senior forward Faith Carter collected second-team accolades from the conference. She scored a team-high nine goals during the regular season, which ranked third in the Big Ten, one goal shy of the conference lead. Carter tallied 20 points (two points for a goal, one point for an assist), which tied for fifth in the conference. After scoring one goal through the first six games, Carter scored eight goals over the next 13 games, highlighted by a hat trick against Indiana on Sept. 20.

Senior midfielder Savanah Uveges received third-team recognition from the Big Ten. Uveges earned 20 points during the regular season, tying the team high and tied for fifth in the conference. She scored eight goals, second-most on the team and tied for fourth-most in the Big Ten. Uveges scored at least one point in 11 of Nebraska’s 19 games during the regular season.

Newcomer Kenzie Coons made the Big Ten All-Freshman Team. A midfielder from Omaha, Neb., Coons played in all 19 regular-season games and made 10 starts. She scored one goal during that span, which came in Nebraska’s upset win at No. 13 NC State on Sept. 9. Coons also tallied an assist against Indiana on Sept. 20.

Senior Michaela Loebel earned the Big Ten Sportsmanship Award for Nebraska. Loebel started each of the first nine games of the season, recording one assist, before an injury sidelined her.

Nebraska’s all-time all-conference total increases to 96, including 26 honorees since joining the Big Ten in 2011. Miramontez becomes the 50th first-team all-conference selection in program history and sixth first-teamer for Nebraska as a member of the Big Ten.

The Huskers (9-6-4, 5-3-3 Big Ten) begin postseason play with the quarterfinal round of the Big Ten Tournament at Ohio State on Sunday. The game, set for 1 p.m. (CT) in Columbus, Ohio, will be televised on the Big Ten Network.
