Huskers Wrap Up Day One at Big Ten Championships
Ann Arbor, Mich. -- Four Huskers competed in singles and doubles matches on Friday to conclude the first day of competition at the Big Ten Individual Championships, hosted by the University of Michigan.
Junior Chris Dean teamed up with sophomore Isaac Nortey to knock off Alan Sweet/Daniel Nuzhny of Wisconsin, 8-7 (2) in Flight B. Later on the day, Dean earned a 7-5, 7-6 (5) victory over Billy Shisler (Michigan State) in the singles round of 64.
In the round of 32, junior Alvaro Moreno Lozano dropped a 6-2, 6-1 match to Pyam Ahmadi (Indiana), while freshman William Gleason fell to Mateo Julio (Purdue), 6-3, 6-2. Dean lost a tough contest to Gabe Tishman (Michigan), 6-4, 6-2, also in the round of 32.
Gleason/Moreno fell just short in a 8-7 (5) loss to Jason Kerst/Chris Kuhnle (Iowa/Penn State) in the doubles Flight C.
The tournament continues Saturday with two rounds of doubles and two rounds of singles -- first serve is at 7 a.m. CT, starting with doubles. The singles semifinals and finals will be played on Sunday, starting at 8 a.m. CT.
