Huskers Grab Lead at Bearcat Hammer Open
Fairview Heights, Ill. (St. Clair Bowl)- The Nebraska bowling team remains undefeated in Fairview Heights with a 10-0 record and total pinfall of 10,399. The Huskers currently sit in first place heading into the final day of competition.
Senior Meghan Straub finished first in the individual standings with her average of 226.2. Cassidy Ray and Allison Morris also finished in the top ten, grabbing sixth and ninth place with their averages of 212.4 and 210.8, respectively. Estefania Prieto managed a twelfth-place finish with her average of 207.6.
The Huskers began the tournament strong, taking down No.11 North Carolina A&T (985-930) in the opening match of Friday’s baker style gameplay. Continuing their dominance, the Huskers defeated Lewis (952-871), North Central (1,037-664) and Valparaiso (1,111-885) before finishing out their day with a final victory over No. 2 Mckendree by a score of 1,009-988.
NU remained in control through Saturday’s traditional style games, starting off with a win over No. 21 Wisconsin Whitewater (1,048-880). The Huskers secured a big win over No. 1 Vanderbilt (1,105-1,038), giving them the motivation to close the day with three consecutive wins over Kentucky Wesleyan (1,030-849), No. 5 Arkansas State (1,039-864), and No. 2 Mckendree (1,156-987)
Nebraska’s match against No. 1 Mckendree in the opening round of the best-of-seven Baker format championship tournament will begin at 8:30 a.m. (CT) on Sunday. The winner of the match will move on to the championship final, while the loser will face the winner of the Vanderbilt-North Carolina A&T match for a spot in the final.
