Houston, Texas- The Nebraska bowling team went 9-3 over the weekend with a total pinfall of 11,982 at the Track Kat Klash in Houston, Texas. This performance landed them in second place in the overall standings.
The Cornhuskers began Sunday with a strong win over Maryland Eastern Shore. The Huskers won the first two matches 233-211 and 267-201, but, the Hawks took the third match 200-191. Nebraska fired back, winning the next two matches 257-195 and 202-146. This victory sent the Huskers straight to the championship match.
The Huskers started off with a close win in the first match, winning by a score of 188-182. Mckendree responded, winning the next four matches 212-193, 242-201, 193-176, 267-201, solidifying the title for the Bearcats.
Senior Meghan Straub grabbed first place in the individual standings for the second tournament in a row with an average of 226.6. Following close behind, junior Raquel Orozco also landed in the top five, taking fifth place with her average of 211.4. Their performances landed them both a spot on the All-Tournament Team.
“As with every week, formats are not designed to reward the team doing the best,” Head Coach Bill Straub said, “At every final match, previous scores are discarded and the tournament starts over. Fortunately, we have had plenty of experience with that issue when a loss did not result. Today we missed. Now it is on to next week with a splendidly talented Husker team.”
The Huskers will return to the lanes next Friday through Sunday at the Warhawk Classic in Milwaukee, Wis.
