Boyer, Klousia Qualify for ITA Fall Nationals
Lincoln, Neb. -- Senior Toby Boyer and junior Micah Klousia have qualified for the 2018 Oracle ITA National Fall Championships in Surprise, Ariz., as the Intercollegiate Tennis Association announced on Monday.
Boyer and Klousia will represent the Huskers in the 32-team doubles draw, which starts on Wednesday, Nov. 7 and ends on Sunday, Nov. 11. The official tournament bracket is expected to be released Tuesday night, and will be published on Huskers.com as soon as available.
"It is great that Toby and Micah get a chance to compete with the best teams in the country," Head Coach Sean Maymi said. "They have been working hard this season and this will be a terrific experience."
The Husker duo reached the ITA Central Regional Championships semifinal two weeks ago after upsetting the tournament's No. 1 seed (Arkansas) in the round of 32. Boyer/Klousia then knocked off pairs from Tulsa and Creighton to reach the semis, but ultimately fell short of a championship match after a tough 6-3, 6-4 loss to No. 9 Vinny Gillespie/Barny Thorold (Drake). Boyer and Klousia hold a 4-1 doubles record on the fall season.
Last year, Boyer qualified to the Fall Nationals in singles after earning a runner-up finish at the ITA Central Regionals. Boyer was only the second Husker to reach the event finals since Karl Falkland won the tournament in 1993.
