Huskers Sign Two Mid-Year Transfers
Lincoln, Neb. -- The Nebraska men’s golf team will add two players to their roster starting in January of 2019.
The first signee is Jay Cottam, a grad transfer from the University of Nebraska-Kearney. Cottam, who attended Thayer Central High School in Hebron, Neb., was the 2015 Nebraska High School State Champion. Cottam also won the Nebraska Golf Association Amateur Match-Play Championships in 2017. He’s a two-time all-conference selection and holds the all-time lowest stroke average in Nebraska-Kearney’s golf history.
Mitchell Klooz will also enter the fray this year for the Huskers. Klooz hails from Laurel, Neb., where he was a two-time Class C State Champion, the low junior finisher and tournament runner-up at the Nebraska State Amateur Championship his sophomore year, and a Nebraska Junior Amateur Champion. He has spent the past four years playing at Liberty University in Lynchburg, Va. where he is a two-time letter winner and Big South Conference Presidential Award honoree. Playing on a medical redshirt, Klooz had a season-best finish of tenth-place at the Cape Fear National Intercollegiate last spring and will look to compete for the Huskers through the 2019-2020 season.
Both players will be on campus in Lincoln when the spring semester begins.
