Huskers Announce 2019 Schedule
Lincoln -- The Nebraska men's tennis team announced its 2019 spring schedule on Monday, Nov. 19, as Sean Maymi begins his initial season at Nebraska in his first stint as a collegiate tennis head coach.
Maymi developed a stronger non-conference schedule for the Huskers as a starting point for a program turnaround in 2019. NU opens the season at the Florida State Spring Invitational, Jan. 12-13, while its home debut takes place on Jan. 30 against UMKC at the Dillon Tennis Center. Conference play starts on March 8 at Wisconsin.
In the fall, NU notched 27 singles wins and 11 doubles wins as several Huskers participated in eight different tournaments. Maymi shared his thoughts on the fall season and how the team has improved.
“We have approached each day with the attitude to improve," Maymi said. "Several of the freshmen have established themselves as being contributors in both singles and doubles. I believe we have made progress and I think the upcoming season will provide us with more opportunities to challenge ourselves and learn.”
Senior Toby Boyer and junior Micah Klousia had an impressive semifinals run at the ITA Central Regionals, Oct. 18-22, which led them to a ITA National Fall Championships appearance, Nov. 7-8. Junior Chris Dean and sophomore Isaac Nortey earned a runner-up finish in the doubles Flight B at the Big Ten Individual Championships, hosted by the University of Michigan, Oct. 26-28.
Freshman Victor Moreno Lozano and Nortey reached the doubles championship match while freshman Mason Meier tied for first place in the Singles B flight at the Drake Invitational in Des Moines, Iowa, Sept. 21-23. NU also competed at the Ivy Plus Invitational that same weekend, hosted by Princeton University, where freshman William Gleason earned a runner-up finish in the Jadwin Red bracket and Boyer/Gleason got third place in the Silver doubles draw.
