Huskers Sign Two Bowlers for Next Season

By NU Athletic Communications
Two talented bowlers have signed their National Letters of Intent to join the Nebraska bowling program for the 2019-20 season, Head Coach Bill Straub announced Monday.
The Huskers added Kayla Verstraete (Loves Park, Ill.) and Amara Smith Speights (Woodbridge, Va.) to the roster for the 2019-20 season.
Verstraete is currently a senior at Harlem High School in Machesney Park, Ill. Verstraete joins the Huskers with an impressive high-average of 210 and high series of 777. The two-time state champion (2017 and 2018) not only has a nearly-perfect high game of 299 but is the 2018 U.S. Singles Champion.

Huskers also signed Amara Smith Speights, a senior at Freedom High School in Woodbridge, Virginia. Speights holds four high games of 300 in her resume, a high series of 791 and a high average of 227. Speights is also a four-time Pepsi Championship winner and placed seventh (U15) and ninth (U20) in 2014 and 2017, respectively, at Junior Gold.
“We are very pleased that such finely accomplished players have chosen Nebraska to pursue their academic and athletic goals,” Head Coach Bill Straub said. “Each has the likely potential to be a multi-year positive performer for Husker bowling.”
