#ProBigRed: Huskers in the NFL Playoffs

By NU Athletic Communications

Several former Huskers are looking to help their teams get one step closer to Super Bowl LIII this weekend in the second week of the NFL Playoffs.

In the AFC this Saturday, the Colts will visit the Chiefs at 3:35 p.m. (CT). The contest will be televised by NBC. Matt Slauson will not appear in the contest for the Colts as he broke his spine earlier in the season.

The Saturday nightcap will feature the Rams hosting the Cowboys at 7:15 p.m. (CT) in the NFC Divisional Playoffs. The competition will be aired on FOX. Ndamukong Suh is expected to start at defensive tackle for the Rams and looks to be a nightmare for the Cowboy offense. Maliek Collins and Randy Gregory will likely start at defensive tackle and defensive end, respectively, while Brett Maher will have kicking duties throughout the game for the Cowboys.

In the NFC on Sunday, the Patriots will battle the Chargers at 12:05 p.m. (CT). The matchup will broadcast on CBS. Rex Burkhead is expected to appear in the backfield for the Patriots several times on Sunday.

The Eagles will visit the Saints in the final AFC Divisional Playoff game at 3:40 p.m. (CT) on Sunday. The game will be televised on FOX. Nathan Gerry is expected to see time on special teams for the Eagles.

During Wildcard weekend, Slauson’s Colts defeated the Texans in Houston, 21-7.

The Cowboys upended the Seahawks 24-22. Collins started at defensive tackle and piled up four tackles, a sack for seven yards, one tackle for loss and a quarterback hurry. Gregory recorded two tackles, one tackle for loss and a quarterback hurry. Maher scored the opening points of the game with a 38-yard field goal. Maher was also a perfect 3-3 on extra points and accounted for six points in the victory.

The Ravens saw their season end with a 23-17 loss against the Chargers. Sam Koch flipped the field on several occasions, punting six times for 268 yards. He averaged 44.7 yards per boot and his longest punt of the day was 59 yards. Koch landed one punt inside the 20 and made one tackle on special teams.

Gerry and the Eagles advanced to the Divisional Round with a 16-15 victory over Prince Amukamara and the Bears in Chicago. Gerry appeared in 77 percent of Philadelphia’s special team opportunities. Amukamara started at corner, played the entire game and accounted for one pass deflection.
