Huskers Finish Weekend 2-0

West Point, N.Y. – The Nebraska rifle team defeated Coast Guard today in the second match of the weekend, 4,660-4,556.

The Huskers started strong in smallbore, assembling an overall team score of 2,313. Emily Cheramie led the field with a mark of 585, followed by Samantha Peterson (582). Kayla Gadeken (578), Bailey Powell (568) and Hannah Virga (564) rounded out the Huskers. Maddie Korthas, shooting independently, shot a career-high 575.

Nebraska widened the lead in air rifle with a team score of 2,347. Maddie Korthas had the highest score on either team with 592, her second career high of the day. Emily Cheramie was close behind, tying her own career-high score of 590. Elizabeth Lorentz and Samantha Peterson added 585 and 580, respectively. Kayla Gadeken completed NU’s squadded effort with 577.

Coast Guard assembled an overall team score of 2,239 in smallbore, led by Hunter Blankenship’s mark of 566. Grayson Wheeler added 563. Seth Strayer paced the Bears in air rifle with 586 to contribute to an overall air rifle team score of 2,317.

Nebraska will compete again on Jan. 18 against Navy and two days later on Jan. 20 against NC State. The matches will be held in the Nebraska Rifle Range, located in the Military and Naval Science Building on 14th and Vine in Lincoln. Match action is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. on Friday and 8 a.m. on Sunday.
